Windows 7: This is driving me nuts :(

Hi Steve-pressman,

Let's try to narrow down the cause of the problem. Do you have a lot of media? if so, if it's indexed has indexing finished? and is media player set to download the album info, covers etc? as this can sometimes slow things down.

Therefore, it might be an idea to try another media player to test your songs on and see if the problem occurs here also. If the other media player works, we know that your system is ok and most likely your codecs are ok too. We can then trouble shoot Windows Media Player. I recommend GOMplayer for this test but you can use any third party product.

If the problem persists, we can look broader at other processes that are hogging memory, updated sound drivers, codecs etc.

Cheers

Tim

BTW - Your post (This is driving me nuts) reminded me of an old Aussie joke...
A man walks into a bar with a steering wheel hanging out of the front zip of his trousers.
"What's that" says the bar attendant?
"I don't know" says the man,"but it's driving me nuts".

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 - OEM Service Pack 1

It has nothing to do with the media player as I have not even used that yet. It happens when I am on the net and for example open a program or go to Youtube and try to watch something. Anyways to cut a long story short I am so fed up with Win 7 and my current rig that I have banished it back to it's box and have gone back to my tried & trusted WIN XP. I know it is a step backward and I should not be such a deafest but I need something that works out of the box XP does this for me.

Until as such time that I can afford to buy a new PC, WIN 7 will sadly just sit and collect dust, shame as I don't really have the time to sort it out but with so many people saying that the processor is old and not really up to the job I will as I have said wait until I have something that will work with Win 7. I shall miss using it but I have just done a fresh Install of XP all my software and it is running as sweet as can be. not jittering drop outs or anything else it just works

Thanks anyways guys for all your help

Never give up - put in a new CPU, an Athlon X2 250 would be more than twice as fast for not much, assuming your motherboard supports it with a new BIOS update.

media player 12 re-scans music folders whenever you launch any internet browser (i think i mentioned that) re-scans whenever you do just about anything on the pc & you dont have to even be using it - it will do it anyway in the background - dont say its not the issue when you havent even tried the fix - go to programs & features
then add or remove windows functions then untick media player & media center then reboot then take a look at your processor usage problem will be solved - your processor is quite cabable of running 7 all the others were suggesting is maybe with a better processor you would see increased performance & the reason you dont get the problem on xp is xp doesnt have media player 12 dont take my word for it google media player 12 processor usage & you will find forum after forums full of it - its a well known issue with wmp 12

Faster than the eye splashscreen driving me nuts
My most recent clean install of Win7 64 bit displays a very brief splashscreen right after the desktop loads. I minimize startups and use Autoruns to stop most others. The only two non-MS startups that I haven't tried disabling relate to logitech setpoint. I haven't tried safe mode yet. Is there...

USB Problem. Driving me nuts!
It may be coincidental, but I bought a memory stick off ebay which turned out to be fake. Since that time, I found that every time I turn on my Acer Aspire laptop it will not recognize anything (stick, drive, camera, ipod etc.) plugged into the USB ports or a card in the memory card socket. No...
