    One additional point

due to the new security mechanisms incorporated into Windows 7 the instructions for the data locations for both Trillian and forte may not be accurate

In order to ensure security win7 is designed to not encorage the storage of user data under the Program Files tree. To ensure that older designed software still works win7 can redirect data locations to a safer user area during install.

To be sure that you have all of your data for these programs please check the contents of your user AppData and the system ProgramData folders for folders related to the applications

AppData is a hidden system folder under the users\usrname\...... tree
ProgramData is a hidden system folder under the root of the system drive

to see these folders you will need to show hidden files and to deselect the hide protected operating system files in explorer - (organise, folder and search options, view)

Expiry of win7 rc 7100 - 2 hour shutdown phase

Not a total disaster but good policy not to get caught as the shutdowns will not save any live data

No worries, your post and it's information were totally valid , just adding a possible variation, which may not even apply in this or any specific case

It can be a disaster; starting today, RC build 7100 shuts down every two hours without saving the open data in any application, so depending on what you are doing it can be nothing or a total disaster.

According to information given by Microsoft, nothing is saved, so if you have any Office documents open it's very possible you lose them.

However, Office has quite sophisticated file recovery system and can often recover documents which were open when Windows crashed or computer lost power without first saving the data. It might work.
