OEM copies are cheap. I picked up a 7 Home Premium x64 version for 120 US roughly over here. The computer I'm installing it on isn't worth a copy of Ultimate - its got a G33 chipset -

The vast majority of people don't typically have the need for Ultimate either...even with a powerhouse computer. Might make better sense for some to put that cash towards some hardware upgrades which might really make a difference rather than investing in the OS that can join a domain, have multiple language packs or use Bitlocker. I really hate that Microsoft chose the word Ultimate for these versions....because it just comes with the connotation that it's clearly superior and the best thing you can get with respect for Windows 7....but for many who make the investment to be safe rather than sorry...I don't think many use the features of Ultimate.

I would say that 99% of the people would have everything that they need on Home Premium.

Note here - Ultimate on 2 systems, and Home Premium for this one as I said, hardware doesn't justify the cost for Ultimate.

Heck, I only run Windows 7 on one computer in my house. The benefits of Windows 7 don't justify the cost to upgrade the other computers (ducks and puts up shielding). Kidding aside though, I just cannot see spending 3 or 4 times the license cost to run on all of my computers. 1 good computer running 7 is enough, I can live with Vista, XP and Linux on my other boxes pretty easily.

Not here - 1 retail copy of Ultimate on the ultraportable in my specs (bought on release day), 1 Ultimate OEM copy on my gaming system, 1 OEM Home Premium copy on the last factory PC I ever bought, heavily upgraded. Love 7.

Don't get me wrong, i don't dislike 7 at all. I've loved it on my main box, ran the beta, RC1 and now the full retail release. But on my wife's laptop, Vista is fine...so I don't see myself getting $109 worth of value out of an upgrade. My server runs a server based OS, and my 2 lab/test boxes run Ubuntu and can boot into a legal XP that I have for them. No need to run 7 there as I mostly use them with Ubuntu and when I want Windows...I want my fast box anyway..... Guess it just comes down to where I want to spend money, and with lots of other interests and kids...i've got to make some decisions and sacrifice somewhere.

Fair enough, but I like having 7 all around. Only an old laptop has Ubuntu - 1GB of RAM, and I can't be bothered upgrading that or use it often. Better to build a new laptop myself.

No expiration date?
Somebody else posted something like this, but I didn't use a hack. I got my key just like everyone else (the drop-down list on the Win7 beta page). http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/6486/59408975.th.png So my copy doesn't expire?

How do you show the expiration date?
I've seen many different expiration dates here lately for Windows 7, and the one that I've seemed to see the most is July 1st or August 1st... they show up about the same amount of times. However, I'd like to try and see what mine is... so it would be nice if someone could tell me how to get to...
