How to remove Adobe image from thumbnail?

I have searched far and wide for a solution to this problem, and have tried about 5 different "solutions", but none have worked.

I installed the trial of Adobe CS4, and was immediately annoyed by the fact that it changed all of my thubnails to the Adobe thumbnails for JPGs and GIFs, and probably other images. However, I thought that I would have to live it to use the program.

Today, I got so sick of it that I uninstalled Adobe CS4, and the thumbnails still have the Adobe flower and other icons on them.

How can I get rid of these images, and return to my original thumbnails, which were basically a preview of the image?

Hi Shawn,

Thank you for the kind welcome. Unfortunately, I have tried every thumbnail cache clearing and icon cache clearing method I have found (about 7 so far) and none of them seem to work. What I really should have said that I want is NOT the Icon, but the Thumbnail, which shows a miniature image of the picture in the file.

Adobe took advantage of me and took over my system and I hate programs that do that. It is so uncool!

I have an email in to Adobe, but thought I might find a solution in the 48 hours they claim to take for a reply.

Hi everyone,

I had tried about 7 of the suggestions herein and on other websites for restoring my thumbnails after uninstalling Adobe PS CS4 Extended, which left behind its icons in their place in Windows Explorer. I first called Adobe, and they were absolutely NO help! Then I called Microsoft, and of course, they wanted me to creat a new user "test" account. I declined and told them that was absolutely unnecessary, and that I had been advised by a tier 2 tech that if I was ever told to do that to ask for a Tier 2 tech. Sure enough, once I did this, the Tier 1 tech magically came up with a solution.

All you have to do is go into the Pictures folder/library, and Click on Organize>Folder and Search Options then View Tab, and deselect Always show icons, never thumbnails, AND deselect Display File Icon on Thumbnails. (See attached image for how this is supposed to look.)

I knew there had to be an easy way...

P.S. Do you not just love the Snipping Tool in Win7? I do not know how I ever lived without it!

Actually, I wanted the Windows Explorer Thumbnails (smaller versions of each picture) to come back from Adobe Replacing them with Flowers and other icons. So, no, I did not want the thumbnails off, I wanted them on, and no I did not want the default "icons", I wanted the default "thumbnails". Such cnfusing terminology! UGH! :)

What are the file extensions that are affected by this?

Did you try the link I posted above for these file extensions? They restore the default associations of them to have the default program used (usually Photo Viewer) to display the correct thumbnails as well.

I'm not sure exactly WHICH extensions were affected (all of them). I KNOW that it was GIFs, JPGs, and PSDs, but I did not consider it a problem with the default program used so much and I was also being lazy and not wanting to figure out which .XXX extensions needed changing back. I actually called MS to ask if I just reinstalled a "photo" program, if it wouldn't ask me to re-affiliate the image files with it. They were not aware enough to understand what I was talking about, and eventually suggested this fix. I'm not saying that your fix wouldn't have worked, but I wanted something with a broader stroke, to include image .XXX files which I may not know about at the moment.

Plus, your suggestion came after I had tried about 7 other ways and I was tired of trying things. So, no offense, it was simply my laziness. (Which I like to call efficiency!)
