How To Add A Default Program

The list of default programs displayed in Default Programs/Set Default Programs is limited and I'd like to add programs as defaults for various file types.

How do I add to the the programs listed?

    Hello Harris,

I'm not sure about adding programs to the Default Programs list like that, but you can select a program to be the default for a file extension type using either method below.

Default Programs - Associate a File Type or Protocol

    or

Open With - Change Default Program

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Out of interest, do you know how Win7 decides which programs to display?
I have quite a few programs which are not displayed.
I thought it might be just those in C:\Programs and not those in C:\Programs (x86), but I've checked and some programs from both are included in Default Programs.

I do not know the specifics of it, but I know that the program must register itself with Windows 7 when installed and be fully compatible and certified by Microsoft. It just depends on how the program was written.
