I just had this issue with my desktop. This may or may not resolve your issue but it's worth a shot.

Go into your BIOS settings (Usually hitting the Delete key as the machine first boots up) and reset to defaults. Save the settings and restart. See if this helps. It is a hardware issue. The problem is it's difficult to say which hardware is causing it. There are a few settings in the BIOS that Windows 7 has issues with, from the amount of research I did (extensive) it's generally a legacy issue.

Also as a side note: I found that removing my nVidia GTS 250 resolved the issue as well. Although the card is perfectly fine. This is why it's hard to determine the issue with CLASSPNP.SYS because it relates to so many different pieces of hardware.

I don't know how to disable the graphics, a little tip would be appreciated, I have been away from the computer world, so I need at least some basic details. Thank you.
    click start type device manager.
expand display adapters then right click the graphics adapter

Wouldn't this cause me not to see anything afterwards?

Alright thanks, I'll give it a shot and I'll report back.

Turn off everything you can in the bios. I have seen Networking adapters or sound devices cause problems like this.

I have an MSI gaming laptop (Model: GX720). It came with Win7 32bit and I decided to install the Win7 64bit version. My system is capable of running the 64bit version of Windows 7 (According to Performance Information and Tools and Windows 7 upgrade advisor). I tried installing Win7 64bit and when it finishes it hangs on "Starting Windows logo", I noticed that the HDD's flash light stops flashing, I left it there for about 10 minutes and nothing. I also tried "safe mode" and I noticed it hangs on "CLASSPNP.SYS".

I have installed 32bit from the same DVD and it installs successfully. Only the 64bit version seems to fail, but, only on my laptop because on my mom's, my brother's, and my girlfriend's laptop -64bit and 32bit works perfectly with the same DVD I'm using to install my 64bit version. My system's specs are:

    -Intel® 45nm Montevina Core™ 2 Duo Processors P7350 2.0GHz - 2.4GHz 3MB Cashe 1066MHz FSB (Centrino 2)
    -4.00GB DDR2-800MHz Dual Channel Memory
    -NVIDIA® GeForce®130M-GT 512MB DDR3 + Turbo Cache - 17" WXGA (1600 x 900) TFT display ACV
    -SATA Hardrive 320GB

    Any ideas? Thank you.
Okay I think I understand why this happens. MSI does not support 64bit drivers, thus when Win7 64bit tries to load the drivers on "Starting Windows" (CLASSPNP.SYS) it will hang in there.
