    Build 7077 - Padlocked Folder

    Hi guys,

Got a question, noticed that 3 of my folders in an external HDD had padlocks on them (I had performed a clean installation of 7077 yesterday, and after installation I don't remember seeing them there):

Suspected that it probably was an ownership thing as mentioned here:

Hard disk Icons -- Sahred Disks confusing with Padlock Item

So I actually changed the ownership of the 3 folders to me (for some reason it was set to be owned by the Administrators group) but the folder remains padlocked.

Any idea why this is the case?

What makes this 3 folders different from the rest in the screenshot above is that I actually added these 3 folders to part of the library and messed around with Homegroup, so not sure if that caused the padlocks? (I've since removed myself from the Homegroup, and even attempted to remove them from the library but still can't seem to get rid of the padlock)

Any one else here facing a similar situation?

    Thanks!

I've noticed the same with my external HD. If you double click 1 of the folders it should display a UAC prompt asking permission. If you say yes/continue after a few moments it should open up the folder. If you close explorer then re-open it and open the folders again it should now have no padlock.

At least, that's how I sorted it.

I've actually turned UAC off right after installation, have always done that since the Vista days (its me, I think they're terribly annoying )

Let me try switching UAC back on and see if I get the same outcome as you.

Will update in a few. Cheers

Just found out why it's there, it's do do with sharing, I just changed my user account folder share settings to everyone and gave full control and then the padlock disappeared.

Basically it's just there to state that the folder has restricted access to anyone but you.
