Filename append with number on copy to same folder?

I rebuilt my system and lost one functionality. When I copy a file, say a "Text.txt", using Explorer to the same folder, I get a new file named "Text - Copy.txt." Before I rebuilt, I would get "Text_2.txt." If I pasted again, I used to get "Text_3.txt."

I checked another Windows 7 system and it works like mine used to, i.e. appends a version number to the filename when copied to same folder instead of appending " - copy."

    System: HP Compaq 6910P laptop
    Memory: 2GB
    CPU: Intel T8300
OS: Windows 7 Professional 32 bit
All drivers and enhancements loaded from HP's site (same as before)
Member of domain, I have local admin privileges but not domain admin and some settings are controlled via the domain admin.

The other system that works like mine used is a:
    System: Toshiba L505D-S694
    Memory: 2GB
OS: Toshiba Windows 7 Home Premium 32 (upgrade from Vista 32)
    Non-domain machine

Any ideas how to change this setting to get my version numbers back?

One quick thing to check.. hit Windows-Pause hotkey
    Click on System Protection
Make sure it says On for your system drive

The previous versions of files uses Shadow Copy/System Restore

I checked the protection on both system and they are set to ON. I also checked the build on both systems and they are identical:

    Version 6.1
    Build: 7600.16481

What's the limit set for Shadow Copy space? Maybe you're up against it. Try deleting all but one restore point with CCleaner.

If that ain't it I don't know what is. Must be one of those 80,000 settings in the registry.

Restore set to 5% with a max of 5.8GB. I am using 5GB. BTW - if you create a "new text document.txt" on your desktop and copy-n-paste this file to your desktop, what name does it get? Is it "new text document - copy.txt" or "new text document_2.txt"?

My Toshiba Windows 7 Home Premium running build 7600.16481 is very generic without any mods or tweaks. It uses the Aero theme and has a couple of applications loaded.

When I copy a file to the same folder, it appends _2, _3, _4, etc. This is a nice feature and I had it on my Compaq before I did the rebuild but don't know what caused this behavior.

I found it. The TeraCopy copy enhancer utility does this.

Copy your files faster with TeraCopy

I used TeraCopy too. That's prolly why I thought it was a Windows option. Only on my system I got filename.txt filename(1).txt

Change default copy paste in the same directory - Copy

I wanted to change default copy format "- copy" into something else e.g. "~1" (from "Text - Copy.txt" to "Text.txt~1"). After installing TeraCopy default copy format was changed as you have mentioned above e.g. from "Text - Copy.txt" to "Text_1.txt" which is quite interresting, but it's still a cold comfort for me.

Does anybody know if it's possible to create my own default copy paste format in Windows 7 by changing some system settings, registry... or some settings in TeraCopy?
I spent many hours looking for any solution, but I wasn't succeed.
