Disabling Task Scheduler in win7

Hi Guys,

I never had any problem disabling Task Scheduler service in XP Pro.

It seems to me that this option is not available in win 7
All settings are dimmed. I cannot reset it from Automatic to Disabled.

How that can be done? My account has Admin rights (only one account here)

I must try this because there are enormous number of sceduled tasks. I don't need any of them. Most of them are from preinstalled Applications by Asus, but there are some MS stuff as well, that I don't want to use anyway

It's not a good idea. Trust me. Back in the Win7 beta days, the whole task scheduler would malfunction and the only way to fix it was a reinstall/"upgrade". I would keep slamming my head on my desk because of how I have to do an upgrade install every 2 weeks to get it working again.

Without Task Scheduler, my system was "stable" technically. But just as others have said, too many programs depend on Task Scheduler and when you start to meddle with things after TS is off, you'll start to realize you need it.

Examples of programs that need task sched:
System Restore (checkpoints)
Reliability History (index and stability are scheduled through TS)
Windows Update (check)
Other Program Updates (depending on the program)

And checks such as
TCP/IP conflicts
Disk Diagnosis
Network Info check
System Sound Service
Power Controls
WinSAT (performance and abilities)

Here's what i do, and with no ill-effects.

Download, install, and run Autoruns.exe.
You will need to "Run as administrator"

Oh yes, to run as administrator--Right-Click on Autoruns.exe and choose "run as administrator"

Wait for autoruns to finish examining your system, then go to the Task Scheduler tab. There you can disable any scheduled task which you do not feel is needed. Here I will let the cat out of the bag--I've disabled all tasks there and my system runs well and fast. I'm not saying to follow my lead-just reporting what I've done.

I suspected as much that it's not advisable just to shut down Task Scheduler (TS) in win 7.
Yes, I do know how to work with Autoruns and that many stuff depends on TS in this system

... actually from some example above - I don't need those: no diagnostics , no history etc... "Sound Service" ??? ... Oh my!

Sure I will go one by one regarding scheduling the same way as I am doing with unneeded services as per Black Viper

Actually I am not really working with win 7 ... just setting up for some friends with new laptops & preinstalled win 7
I passed Vista (never used that disaster). Win 7 is not much better ... and x64 - is a joke

Personally staying with Linux (few flavours) and using XP Pro ... until 2014 :)
