I thought sfc just seached for damaged or missing files. At any rate, it didn't find any problems.

Thanks,
Gerry

It does, which is what I would assume that to be (damaged or missing registry files).

At this point, I would recommend a Repair Install.

I don't believe SFC does anything with the registry, only system files.

I could be wrong though. If so can anyone provide a link to some info that describes how SFC in Windows 7 behaves. I can find info on XP and Windows Server 2003 but nothing specific fro Vista or Windows 7.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Quote:
The sfc /scannow command (System File Checker) scans the integrity of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible.
You are correct, though I would assume system files would include the registry.

Windows Explorer Lost Pinups
I normally have shortcuts to various folders pinned to my Windows Explorer icon on my toolbar, but sometimes these disappear. Right now is one of those times. All I have are "frequent" folders, without any of my pinup shortcuts. Why does Microsoft hate me so much?

Lost link clicking in IE8
On Win 7. Somehow no links in IE8 is clickable or show a path. Links in other browsers work fine. I have closed and opened and I see no particular setting wrong. I had some external toolbars installed and removed them. Anyone heard of a virus that way? All left untried is another reboot.
