Random Appearance of Drive Q

Recently, as far as I can see, for no apparent reason my PC (Running Windows 7 Pro x86 in Boot Camp on my MacBook) has mounted the non existent drive Q.
I have tried accessing, deleting and unmounting drive Q but all attempts end in 'access denied', presumably because it doesn't exist.

I have checked for viruses using my copy of McAfee and also using Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and I have found none. I have 2 partitions on my internal hard drive, the Windows one and the Mac one.

Is there anything I can do to remove/get rid of drive Q?

Does the drive dismount if you reboot the machine?

No it doesn't unfortunately. Its been on there for about a week and I assumed it would just go away.
On my Mac Partition it does not mount at all if this is of any help to you.

I wonder if it is a virtual CD/hard drive program behind all this. Did you install any programs like MagicDisc?

Do you have a virtual CD drive program installed? Eg Daemon Tools?

I have the MacBook air CD/DVD drive sharing software installed.
I will see what happens when I remove it.

Even after the uninstall and restart it still appears.
Could it possibly be to do with Windows XP mode.
Also I forgot to mention the drive calls itself 'Local Disk (Q:)'.

Could it be a shared folder in Boot Camp?

If you feel like it, you can remove the drive letter in Disk Management. Type diskmgmt.msc into the start menu, right-click on the Q drive, and select Change drive letter.

I have seen this situation several times, in posts, at this forum. It is from one of the programs that you have installed. After the program is removed the Drive will remain. Follow Jonathans advice. If it is taking up just a small percentage of you hard drive and you cannot remove it, its best to ignore; it is not causing any problems.
