Computer on 24/7 or off every night?

    In terms of electrical stress, you get more when you turn it on and off.

    In terms of thermal stress, if your components are well-cooled, it doesn't matter.

    In terms of mechanical stress (this is what usually fails first), your hard drives and your fans will be stressed more when it's on than when it's off.

    I leave mine on, but I don't pay for increased electricity (already included in rent :))

    Mine gets left on most nights but its down to me running Apache on it. I really need to build another box just for serving the web.
