Hey guys. With my desktop pc, everytime I turn it on the date and time is always not what it should be. A few moments ago the date was I think 25th of November 2006 and the time was way off what it is now. The date actually usually does reset to 2006 but haven't noticed if it's the same day/month in 06.
What could be the cause of this and how could I fix this?

The first thing to check when the time is not shown properly is the battery and check BIOS.
Make sure your time is correct in your BIOS.
It is possible your clock battery is dead, and loses the time every time you shut down your computer.
Thanks. To get into the BIOS is that you hit umm (F1? del??) before the pc boots up?
F1, F2, and Del are common ones, especially F2. During the first screen on boot (Power On Self Test, or POST), it will usually say something like "Press F2 to enter Setup".

I would check it out sooner rather than later. As your PC is showing 2006 you might find that some files that you have created since that date which is probably every data file on your PC will have difficulty opening. When you think of it if you created a file on say 10th dec 2009 then according to your PC that date has yet to come. I had a member of the small computer club that I run, come back from a once in a lifetime trip to Africa only to find he couldn't open a single one of his 400+ photos. It turned out eventually that his camera date was set in 2035 so didn't exist in the virtual world.
Lets us know how you get on and if you need further help with the bios or the internal battery. I am going to plump for a duff battery.

I'd say It's almost certainly the Battery. They are actually 3.3 volts when new and, as they approach 3v these types of problems occur. I know they say 3v on the battery.
Big tip:
Do not handle these batteries with your fingers. Sweat will leave behind salts which will shorten the batteries life by providing a discharge path. Use plastic tweezers. Buy them from a big shop, not from the corner shop, where they may be many years old already.

Well after a week I finally went back to using this pc again and I changed the time in the BIOS and date to what it properly is :)
With the files i haven't seen what happens but they are fine now and my msn wouldn't work when the date was wrong.
Will see if it changes itself again and if it does I guess as someone said above it must be the battery.

I'm hoping that your PC is a desktop? If so I it makes it much easier to fit a new battery. I would suggest that you get a new battery now so that you are ready when you need it.You will need to get details of your motherboard. If you haven't got them then a free program like Belarc Advisor will analyse your sysytem for you. Once you have the motherboard details do a search for a new battery on Google. It will probably be like a flat watch battery but a bit bigger. If you need help with fitting it post back here. It's fairly straightforward but a little daunting if you are not used to delving into the "works".
