    It wasn't too long ago that I switched from DSL to dial-up. I could still live without teh internetz, me thinks. (Although I have to admit I'd want to smash a PC that is not mine and I am using it if it doesn't have an internet connection)

    Internet connectivity here in South Africa no fun, as the lines drop often, and the cap limits are no good for gaming. So I know from a certain perspective what it means to go without internet. I often buy additional 1GB connections (larger caps or even uncapped is too expensive) just to get back online.

    Usually when I'm without internet, I play games (Diablo II mostly), or programming. This helps to pass the time until the lines are back up or I can get another connection.
    I feel your pain....I'm in SA aswell and the ISP here is really crap...and WAY to expensive........

    I have been using PC since 1981 or there abouts. Overall I have probably owned (I built most of them) about 20 PCs from 1982 to now. Before the internet I owned and used several PCs starting with a PC Clone (Corona PC) in 1982?.

    I kept busy with programming, home finance, graphics, games and bulletin boards. We had modems then and connected to various bulletin boards to get some of the same kinds of content we get now; only less sophisticated. And of course there was always sneakernet. The internet is just a refinement of what has been there since the start. Just quicker. 30 years from now someone will probably ask this about whatever the latest is and someone will reminisce about the internet

    * Photography production (Terrestrial and Astro)
    * Continue scanning the families slides and photo (will take years to finish)
    * Music production
    * Single player and lan gaming.
    * Programming for fun and profit.
    * Writing.

    Tons and tons and tons of stuff to do with your computer with no net, at least untill we enter the age where all software is "on line". A Day I hope to never see happen personally. Just can't share what you doo quite as well...

    If there was no internet, i would probably ride a bike or do something physical. Thanks to the internet creators, now we can entertain ourselves with the web.

    I began using PC before internet ever existed: word processing, programming, calculation sheets.
    Then internet came for everyone: forums, messaging, email, ecc. ecc.
    I remember twenty years ago with a bit of nostalgia...
