New member with a question

Glad I found this forum, lol. My question is this...I received a new computer with W/7 this past December...I had purchased some years back the Windows Plus! for XP program....I was looking for a specific space screensaver I had used with 98 and the one that came in this package looked the same....due to not having enough space or oomph on the old computer it would only run parts of the Plus program....my question is this....I understand it probably is not compatabile with 7 but will it hurt my computer to try to run it? Will it harm it at all and also I have a Scrabble complete CD and when I went to the compatability site for 7 it says not supported yet...so can it be tried or will I be doing damage? Thanks so much if anyone can help!!!!

Generally when something is not compatible it will simply not install or not work after installation.

If you really want to try it, make a backup image of your computer, and back up all your files.
Then go ahead and try it out. If it works, your fine, if not you have backups.

I do not think it will hurt your computer, I expect it to either not install or not work properly once installed.

Thank you so much!! Maybe I should just wait....I sure don't want to risk messing it up....I did do the required steps in the install of the computer to have repair disks but am ashamed to admit backing up a computer is not something I have ever done....I realize I should so maybe I will research on here the best way to achieve this....thanks again

I used to be the same way, until I got a WHS, which does it automatically (yay!).

In lieu of a backup, you can always set a system restore point. Win 7 system restore does a much better job than the XP version did. Also, you can try setting the installer to XP compatibility mode.

In this case, I recommend an off site backup in the event that is completely crashes Windows (which I believe to be unlikely), but its always good to have.

A restore point does not work if it is erased.

Thought I would just say Hello. I have been using Windows in one form or another since version 3.0. For you youngsters out there that was the version before Windows supported True Type fonts and you were lucky if you had more than 6 or 7 fonts on your system. Each font was bought separately and was...
