Welcome!
I'm not sure how to do it from the options, but I know a system restore will take care of the issue.
Jon, must get up earlier than me, because so many times I follow his astute advice, which is always valid. I only want to add that in the future, you may want to give your friends the guest account. The beauty of the account is that the user has full use of the OS features, but cannot see your account and everything can be set back to normal after the user leaves. I do not want to tell you to give users an account with parental controls, because you may lose a friend, but PC would be perfect.
Try turning off the Tablet PC feature in Windows. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features – Turn Windows Features On or Off > uncheck Tablet PC Optional Components. Then reboot.
or this would do just as good.
Try this:
1. Press the Windows key and the U at the same time.
2. This should bring up Utility Manager -- a little manager of accessibility tools. Narrator may or may not be automatically running. If it is, close it out (it's a nuisance unless you need it).
3. Select On-Screen Keyboard in the listbox.
4. The option Start Automatically When I Login should be checked. Uncheck it.
5.Click OK.
6. Log out and back in and see if that fixed the problem.
Good luck.
My on screen keyboard is run on startup, and I don't want it to.
I have gone into the ease of access menu and made sure that the "Use On-Screen Keyboard" box is NOT checked.
I have run msconfig, nothing there runs osk.exe.
I have tried using the autoruns program that was suggest in the vista form, again nothing is found that runs osk.exe
I have confirmed that it is actually osk.exe running by going into the task manager when the On-Screen keyboard is running and found "osk.exe".
Any advise or suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks,
Do either of the following registry locations show osk.exe?
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
I checked both
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Neither contains an "osk.exe"
What about your startup folder?
C:\Users\(User-Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
