    Weird Logon

Something weird happened when I installed Windows 7 - when it boots up I get an error message that says "The user name or password is incorrect" There are no user Icons shown just and "ok" box. The the "administrator Icon" shows up with a logon window and a box to "switch user".

When I click on "switch user" I get another screen with "2" user icons one is "Administrator" the other is "Other user".

The weird thing is in control panel their are 3 users, one is "Administrator" the other is mine "KMW" and guest.

    My questions are:

    1. Why do I get the log on screen error message even before I get the typical log on screen with the icons ans user names?
    2. Why when I click "Switch user" do I get a user icon is that says "other user" instead of "KMW"
    3. How do I change it to a normal start up process that gives me the normal user log on icons.

Bare Foot That's for the idea. I tried this. The repair ran for about 2 seconds and came back with no errors. Any other ideas I hope?

    Thanks again

    Welcome,

If the repair took only a few seconds, there is a problem. The repair process does not always work but it takes longer than a few seconds.

But, to move on. Did you do a clean install (had to install all of your prgrams again or a upgrade. Both can be done with an upgrade DVD.

Bottom line, if you did an upgrade, the current problem is only the beginning. Do a clean install. If you do not know how, just post and I will get you the tutorial.

Try the repair install, again. Use option 2. I do not think that it was done correctly. It takes a bit longer than a few seconds.

Well after nothing worked I called MSFT and they helped. It seems during installation occasionally Administrator shows up as a user in Windows 7 and it's not suppose to be. It's there but I was told only for help in fixing things. They said typically you would access and allow Administrator only through the Repair Disk portion of your original WIN7 disk, using the command prompt and typing in to enable
"net user administrator /active:YES" and to turn off the same substituting NO at the end.

To solve my problem they had me shut off Administrator and reset my password on the other user and re-boot. It worked.
