Windows 7: Battery problem

in round numbers.. todays li-ion batteries last about 100 cycles.. meaning from completely discharged (not really all the way) to fully charged..

lets say that you usually use about 20% of your battery then charge it.. to keep the math simple, you could do this in theory 500 times. So, once a day, that is 500 days worth or 16 months.

The battery will slowly loose its run time capacity. However when they decide they have had enough, it typically happens all at once. One cycle, the battery may last an hour.. The very next cycle, it could have only a 10 minute run time even though fully charged.

Between the Vista OS and the win 7 install, this wall may have been struck.

NiCad batteries could last for years if properly taken care of. I have not found a way to restore or condition a failing li-ion battery.

I'm sure this isn't good for my battery, but I have it plugged in on a/c power pretty much 99.9% of the time, with the battery installed. I do it this way because I have a high end gaming laptop, and the battery doesn't last anywhere near as long as I think it should.

The few times I ran it on battery it lasted about an hour if I was gaming or watching DVD's. The battery lasts about an hour and a half for all other PC usage. But then I don't really know if these times are accurate because I always have the a/c plugged in.

Leaving it always plugged in is no good. It does need to be exercised once in a while. I made the same mistake..

I am on my second battery.. The 1st one pooped out like I explained.. just over night.. The second one lasted a little over a year. It currently has about a 20 minute run time even though at 1st, the computer reports I have 1.5 hours.

I just got a new battery, this one lasts almost 4 hours.. It is bigger though in regards to capacity.. The stock battery is 3900mah, the new one is 4400mah.
