GRRRRRRRRR ... beginning to HATE Windows 7, Please help

Puter has been set up for about 3 months now with no problem ... until today.

    What I did:

Puter was running a little slow, so I went into msconfig and unchecked some items that were being loaded and didn't necessarily need to be, itunes, roxio, etc. When I rebooted the puter, the only thing that showed up on the screen after about 10 minutes was a cursor. I have spent the last 8 hours trying to get the system up and running again and just now have got the desktop displaying, but it is taking 15 minutes just to display the desktop. Then every time I try to do ANYTHING it gives me the error message.

    "Windows explorer has stopped working"

Problem now: I cant access msconfig to see if I screwed something up, get the error every time. Cant restore because everytime I try it informs me that it cant extract a font, so it will not replace anything. I had to remove my data HD, because it swapped the c: drive with the d: drive and

Lastly, everything is soooooooooooo slow, if I click on a close button, it does not react for about 30 seconds.

I am lost .... any help would be appreciated.

    thanks

As rich said, a system restore is the best option.

However, if you can boot into safe mode and run msconfig again, check the option for diagnostic boot. If that works, you can start re-enabling things.

You will get up and running again, this is a problem that can be resolved. When you get to that point invest in a good external hard drive. Make a system image. You will never have this problem agian, even if you try to improve the OS.

Agree on system restore - best option.

Run it from recovery - boot with DVD or using recovery partition. Select "Windows System Restore" option.

It took me 3 different installs of win7 to work the kinks out. I agree do a system restore and in the future be careful using msconfig or services you can kill you're system.

This looks like a bad install of Windows 7. This happens randomly.

I once couldn't use Media player, paint or Windows Messenger due to this. Also one time it installed without notepad and paint. :P

agree with robin, it sounds like a dodgy install, from my own experience, as long as you dont actually uncheck Microsoft Windows Operating System from MSconfig then it will boot,

but yeah system restore is the way to go, boot from your installation media
