Cannot set up windows fax and scan

I have a new Compaq CQ60 with windows 7 64 bit home premium.
It has a builtin HDAudio Soft data fax modem with Smart CP.
When I try to set up windows fax and scan, it doesn't recognize my builtin modem. It says I have to install a fax modem. I went into device manager and it says the device in working, and when I tried to update the driver, it says I have the latest driver.
Can any one tell me how to solve this problem?
    Thanks
    Old Bob

have you uninstalled the modem in device manager ,then let win 7 find it and install the drivers, is the modem connected to the phone line , also does the modem show up in device manager and no yellow triangle

The modem shows in device manager without a yellow triangle, and it is hooked to a phone line. I'll try uninstalling it.

I uninstalled it and let windows find it and install it, and the fax setup wizzard still can't find it.

    Solution found

I accidently found the solution to windows fax and scan setup not recognizing my modem. Even though the setup program doesn't recognize my modem, I went to Tools, and then clicked on Fax status, and a little window popped up and said "ready to send and receive faxes." I checked and it worked, so there must just be a problem with the setup program, but the fax program does recognize the modem, and works fine.

Also, be sure to go to Tools, then to Fax Settings, then in the General tab, be sure to put a check mark beside Allow the device to send, and also a check by Allow the device to receive.
