    Windows 7

How do I get (for example) the ebay icon to appear in the task bar at the bottom of the screen? In previous versions of Windows I have dragged and dropped all the useful icons to the taskbar so that I can open them with one click from wherever I happen to be. I don't seem to be able to do this with Windows 7.
Certain icons have to be 'pinned' to the task bar (God knows why) but not others.

I have exchanged one large and powerful machine with Vista and Norton for an even more powerful machine with Windows 7 but no Norton. The new machine ought to be markedly faster than its predecessor but in fact is just as sluggish.

Thank God Microsoft don't make cars.............

    1. URL's you can pin to the IE icon in the taskbar. It shows when you right click on the IE icon.
    2. As an alternative, you can assemble all the URLs to which you want to have fast access in a folder and make a taskbar from the folder. That is what I do. It is very paractical
    3. Third alternative is to install Rocket Dock and place the URL shortcuts there
    4. The fact that your system is sluggish is probably due to the setup you made. For starters post the list of your startup programs and we'll have a look.
    5. Make sure that you have at least default settings for the pagefile, superfetch, etc.
    6. Do not confuse sluggish processing with sluggishness on the internet. With a minimal DSL, the fastest system will be slow on the internet. Maybe you want to give us a more detailed description of "sluggish".

I tried it just now, and it pins it to the taskbar, however, there is no ebay icon. It's just an Internet Explorer icon.

My guess is that an update for Windows and or the code for the web site will eventually show it as an ebay icon instead.

I don't know whether that would solve the OPs problem. Doesn't the link just provide an icon with a path too the URL? My guess would be you still could not put that into the taskbar outside IE.

O.k. Maybe people aren't seeing what I posted earlier.

Whether you drag the icon in the browser to the taskbar, or use that program, it's not going to physically show the eBay icon period. It will pin an IE icon to the taskbar and all it will contain is the shortcut in that icon when you right click it to take you not only to ebay, but anywhere else.

If you left click it, it just opens up IE to your homepage, whatever that might be.

So you can "pin" it to the taskbar, but it's just a shortcut grouped under IE like any other favorite.

That's exactly what I thought it would do.

    Hello Bradshaw,

You could create a internet shortcut to Ebay using the method in the tutorial below, and be able to pin it to the taskbar or move where you like.

    Hope this helps,

Many thanks for the responses which I shall work through as time permits. I have to say - after a week's experience of Windows 7 - that it has achieved the impossible. It is actually worse than Vista! We have to work with (typically) an Indesign document open, two or three instances or Illustrator, Photoshop and several instances of Excel and it is of the greatest importance that we can see from the taskbar where each of these applications is. With Vista - dreadful though it was - we were able to switch from application to application but with W7, it takes an age just to find the application you want.
And that is only part of the problem. Describing the trouble we have had with W7 firewall conflicts would taken all night.
A cynical colleague of mine tells me that Microsoft are actually financed by the Taliban as part of their campaign to undermine Western commerce and operational efficiency. It is a point of view difficult to argue with...........

    TSB,

You could also pin programs that you consistently use on regular basis to the taskbar to make using them easier and faster.

    or folders

Taskbar - Pin or Unpin a Folder

    or Quick Launch

Quick Launch - Enable or Disable
