    Win 7 freezes ... again!

I have read many of the threads regarding win 7 freezes but they all seem to need the OS to be up and running. I have someone running Win 7 32 bit which continuously freezes soon after booting. It does not allow for any form of inter-action, it just freezes solid. No screen activity, no noise, no CPU activity or flashing lights. Nothing. Nowt. Zilch. This sometimes happens when performing OS updates, when it lets you get that far. It's a sneaky little devil at times!
As I write this it has been locked for 22 minutes.
We have tried to start in Safe Mode and run Optimizers, which have sped through with no problem. We have tried the repair module via the instalation disk. All this is to no avail. We have tried a system restore. It still keeps freezing solid soon after boot.
On one occasion the dreaded blue screen of death appeared, which was supposed to have been banished, indicating a sceen dump of memory, but that was all.
It can not be a virus as the HDD has been checked on another OS with no results or hits.
Any help would be welcomed or should we just re-install.
This was on an Asrock 4CoreDual-Sata2 R2.0 mobo. D915 cpu. 2 GB memory. 160 GB HDD. Win 7 with Sp1. Graphics via Nvidia 7600 GT.

System starts up, no problems using different HDD with either Linnux or XP.

    HELP!

Tnx edwar. I was thinking along those lines.
Do you not find it strange that the most help you get, automatically, assumes your system is actually running.
    Ho hum. Tnx again.
