Hi guys
I have disabled the search indexing service, & would like to know is it possible to disable the message bar that pops up every time I use advanced search.
"Your searches might be slow because the index is not running. Click to turn on the index..."

I think I have fixed your problem. Better late than never!
Go to your Folder Options (From any window directory menu) Tools=> Folder Options. (You may have to press the Alt key to view this menu.)
Search Options - Change or Restore
In the folder options dialogue go to "Search"
In "What to Search" Select "Always Search File Names..."
In "How to search" highlight "Dont use the index when searching..."

I realize this is a very old thread in web years, but the final setting for "Don't use the index when searching . . ." succeeded in preventing those "Your searches might be slow because . . ." messages every time I would do a quick search in Windows Explorer on Windows 7 64-bit.
I disabled Windows Indexing because most of my searching happens across multiple drives and directories, for which I now use the incredible "Everything" freeware program - it's ridiculously fast, very lightweight and updates to accommodate file changes almost immediately (even dynamically, while viewing a set of search results).
