Is there a quick access to the Desktop?

Running Win 7 Home Premium - and have been unable to figure out a way to quickly access the Desktop. In XP I was able to move a shortcut to the quick launch task bar, but there seems to be no way to do this with 7. I tried to pin it to the taskbar without success.

As it is now I have to minimize open applications to get back to the desktop.

Am I overlooking the obvious?

In all due respect, but that is a pretty useless shortcut that just crowds the taskbar - especially as there is already a shortcut to the right of the clock as Richard pointed out. BFK, would you know why anybody wants this shortcut?
