    Locating my users desktop folder

    I had a virus.

I installed Windows 7 on another hard drive and scanned the 300 gig to remove the virus.

I am trying to search my old install but cannot find my users desktop. I search some things on that desktop but I cannot find it.

Am I missing something here what is happening? Do I need to show hidden files? If so why is it hidden?

Please help me find this stuff I had folder on my desktop with iphone music etc I wanted to keep. Including website backups etc...

    Welcome!

The desktop is located in C:\Users\[username]\Desktop.

In the Windows.old folder, the directory would be C:\Windows.old\users\[username]\desktop.

The new install is on a separate hard drive!

All I see in the old drive Local Disk D: is as follows

    Users/Public

Local Disk C: is my new install.

I know the files are still there I just can;t see my user anywhere.

The icons you see on your desktop is a combination of two folders: Private and Public
The private desktop is located in C:\Users\[username]\Desktop.
The public desktop is located in C:\Users\Public\Desktop.

    Thanks. This is fascinating.

I gather that when I am logged in with a password that the desktop combines both, or do I misunderstand?

    thanks
