WLAN/WiMAX ghost icon on desktop won't go away!!!

I have a ghost icon of WLAN and WiMAX in the left corner of the desktop, it is unresponsive and stays above all other windows/programs. It is a very recent issue.

I am guessing this happened due to windows updates, since others online (the few others I could find) said they thought that it was due to their updates.

These are the recent updates I have:
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.155.2386.0)
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.155.2595.0)
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.157.217.0)
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.157.478.0)
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.157.1012.0)
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.157.1306.0)

I have an ASUS Notebook u43 series laptop, Windows 7 Home Premium.
Let me know if you need more information. I would LOVE to get this irritating box out of my face, but I am not sure how - since, the windows updates console says I can't uninstall the above updates.

Here's a screenshot if that helps.

    Thanks in advance!

    Doubtful,
Use Safe mode with networking to download and run these free scanners then repeat the scans booting as usual,
Also Review your Uninstall a program list using safe mode with networking,

Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
Uncheck the box to Activate the Free trial from the final install options,
