Cursor click and hold Highlighting box.

    Hello Fellow friends,

I've been messing around with using and setting up my theme for Windows 7 as well as using a program called registry booster to "fix registry files." This is all that I have done to my pc lately, it runs fine and everything. There is just one thing that has been bothering me that I noticed this week.

The clicking and holding highlighting on the desktop that presents a blue box for whatever square you make, introduced with windows vista and windows 7, it is gone! I do not know where the setting is or what I have done, but I do miss it and I would like some assistance on finding a way to getting this blue highlighting box. I liked it, I miss it, I do not want the old school dotted line box. I have googled and spent a few hours trying to fix this setting, I am hoping for some direction and assistance here!

Thank you for any advice/tips given! I have looked through and out of all settings and personalization, the blue highlighting box shows in folders when I do it, but it does not do it on the desktop like it once used too.

Dont know the answer to your specfic question, but it would be my hunch that the reg fix is not doing you any good. It is my suggestion and that of many others, leave the reg alone. I have never tried to work on my registry since windows 98 and never had a problem. I do not know, but would not be surprised if your current situation is caused by the reg fix.

Do you still get the translucent box when highlighting in explorer?

You can try Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Performance Settings -> Visual Effects ... Check the box for "Show translucent selection rectangle"

Well... lookie there... we agree on something...

I will commonly spend 20 minutes looking for a user setting before I will spend 5 minutes in the registry messing with stuff that's only half understood.

Okey dokey... glad I could help... Be sure to click the little triangle at the top right and let the mods know your problem is fixed.

And... FWIW... the windows registry is not as dynamic as people seem to think it is. I use a registry cleaner right after that mad flurry of installs that always follows an OS install... and I probably won't use it again for a year or more. The only places that should need regular cleanups are your Temp folders and even then, once a week is good enough.
