am i possessed or is it just a virus?

Hi, apologies if this is in the wrong place...
I have a Toshiba 500 sattelite laptop that has been fine(ish) till last week.
Now it loads everything as you roll the mouse over the icon and reacts so fast that it is impossible to open for example, a virus checker.
Like all good idiots I didn't make a bootable disk.
    Any ideas?

I don't quite understand your problem. Are you saying it opens things as you roll the mouse over them? If that is what's happening, then you can do this:

Open Ease of Access Center (Windows Key + U)
Select Make Mouse Easier to Use (Down Arrow 7 Times Then Enter)
Uncheck "Activate a Window by Hovering Over it With the Mouse" (Down Twice Then Spacebar)
OK (Tab Until You're At the OK button, Then Hit Enter)

Try adjusting your touchpad sensitivity. If you have synaptics or alps driver installed, go to device settings. Somewhere there would be an option to set mouse touch sensitivity. Reduce that to a comfortable level.

Or the "Tap to Click" option can be turned off entirely...
