^Interesting, and I'm beginning to think - correctly or incorrectly - the same: I 'only' have Avast and MS Defender at the moment.
Interesting that MSE disables Defender upon install.

I really like the new Avast version (after turning the voice off) and cannot decide which of the two I like best so I am alternating which one I install for now to get a comparison.

I think (?) that Defender is included - part and parcel - within MSE. Yes, been using Avast for nearly five yrs without any problems and it gets better and better with each update. Yes, love the new interface -- voice is on and many a time that i've nearly spilled my coffee

Actually, I think i'm mistaken:

Quote:
MSE replaces Windows Live OneCare, a commercial subscription-based antivirus service and the free Windows Defender, which only protected users from adware and spyware....
It includes the same anti-malware engine (dubbed "Microsoft Malware Protection Engine", or MSMPENG for short), and virus definitions that all other Microsoft desktop antimalware products share, including Forefront Client Security, Windows Live OneCare, and Windows Defender (Defender excludes the antivirus definitions which are separate from the antispyware definitions).[16] MSE will disable Windows Defender, as it provides protection against malware, not limited to spyware and adware.[4]

Here is a bit more on added security in Windows 7: An Introduction to Security in Windows 7. Might be worth a read through... Also, Backup and Restore is always a good practice: Windows 7 features - Backup and Restore - Microsoft Windows.

Hope you enjoy Windows 7!

Cheers,

Greg, I have come to agree with this. I run an antivirus and a firewall. I scan with malwarebytes once each week. Other than that weekly scan, I do not run an anti-spyware.
