    autoplay confusion

in my autoplay settings, i have everything under Media set to "take no action" except for DVD Video, which is the only kind of media i want to autoplay. there is nothing listed under Devices.

every time i turn on my external drive, or plug in my ipod or a flash drive, i get that damned autoplay window popping up.

    how do i prevent this?

Do you have this checked? It's checked by default. If you uncheck that, it won't pop up, but so won't anything else.

i do have it checked because i want Video DVDs to autoplay.

it seems it's an all-or-nothing situation now. i miss the drive-by-drive autoplay setup from XP

    Hello Garbanzo,

If you would like to keep AutoPlay turned on, then you can select the Take no action option from the drop down arrow menu for the listed media that you do not want AutoPlay to pop-up with when you use them.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

garbanzo I have noticed something about this as well. I dont do or have your setup how you want or have, but what i do notice is that after ever bootup, it wants to rescan the external HDD everytime and then do the autoplay... it doesnt go thru the steps of reinstallation of the drivers for the controller or anything, just the rescan, which didnt take place in 7000 atleast. I rarely reboot, so it hasnt annoyed me enough yet to make me look around for the "fix". May get around to this, hopefully sooner than later.

yes the problem is drives, not media. i have an external drive where i keep all my music. whenever i turn it on, autoplay pops up. same happens when i plug in my ipod, flash drive, memory cards, etc. it's very irritating.

i suppose i'll just turn autoplay off completely and just teach my wife how to start DVDs playing in MPC manually. less hassle for me :)

I have resolved this by turning on ituneshelper service. Tuneup Utilities said this wasn't required so I turned it off, clearly it required as repairing my itunes installation restarted the servie and all is now working well.
