What is correct way to put computer to sleep automatically & waken it

New to forum and need assistance.
Tested using this in Task Scheduler and it put computer to sleep C:\Users\Peter\Documents\AllData\Sleep batch file\sleep.bat

However, i did not know how to restart and after hitting random keys and moving mouse screen showed "Resuming Windows"
Nothing happened and I had to manually reboot

As background I have previously finished day by putting computer to sleep manually and have a task to waken it next morning.

What is correct way to resume after computer is in sleep mode.
Is there anything I should have added when creating the sleep task particularlly when I want all open files /links to remain when reopened.
    Thanks

There is really no need to create a batch file to put the computer to sleep. Theu can all be done via the power settings panel.
    Perhaps this link will explain.

    Thanks for that link.
My intrepretation of "sleep" is that computer does not shut-down and when activated , either by a set task or manually it returns to the files that were open before going to "sleep".

I did a test with Power settings setting changing it from 10m to 1 minute and screen went black after about 1 minute .
I tried to wake it by moving mouse and it switched of completely.

So at this stage it looks like my intrepretation is not correct, and I am puzzled that computer screen went black when under the previous setting of 10 minutes this never happened.

I need computer to be in full operation throughout the day to receive certain info .
At night it does not matter if it goes to sleep and can be reactivated by some action by me.
However , it is important that a task I now have running to wake computer at 1am comes into effect so that during that day the info needed is received.
This is why I need some method to automatically put computer in sleep mode daily for the times I am away from home and cannot manually reactivate computer.

Currently I manually put computer to sleep after I have finished with computer
    Any further advices appreciated

EDIT Once again computer turned off so it looks like I have disturbed some setting .It reopened when i turned power button on

Fixed it through Power setting changing from Balanced to Power saver with sleep set for 15min.

Wake from sleep achieved via programme setting in Task Scheduler
    /c"exit"
