    Login shows the wrong desktop

I have my user account and also an "admin" account on my computer.

When I logged in today under my account it actually showed the "admin" account's desktop and didn't have any of my desktop icons or applications configured. When I clicked on start I could see that my account was indeed logged in and not the admin one.

A simple restart solved the issue, but what could have caused this? Will it continue to happen?

    Thanks in advance

That is usually the behavoir of a corrupt profile, or in your case, one that didn't load fully. I've had that one two systems, where it happened once, and never again.

I'd say, if it continues to happen often, it might be time for some troubleshooting. If it doesn't happen again, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, I would say the same thing. Frankly, if it happens again, login with other user, rename the problem user and then create a new one.

    Hello Rodgers,

In addition, did you remember seeing a The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. - Vista Forums type error before it logged in on that account?

If you get it again, then the link above can help show you how to fix it.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks for the quick responses everyone.

Brink, I did not get any error when it loaded, simply got the incorrect account desktop. Thanks for the link.

    Rodgers & Tgrds,

You might consider creating a new adminsitrator account, copying over any user folder files and shortcuts to the new account, then delete the old account from within the new account after everything checks out ok.
