Windows 7 more problems

Hi
after sorting out my permisions ownership problems, but not completely as I still cant download files from my yahoo mail. What I mean is I need permision etc to save etc. Anyway leave that. I booted my machine this morning and had the shock of my life. I discovered that every file on my hardrive hasd turned into text files.
When I tried to open anything it was all in machine code. So tried to restore my system using the search bar. This came up also in machine code.. I could not do anything. So I started the machine in safe mode and tried to run restore within windows. This also came back in machine code.Anyway I went into control panel and I done a restore from there. It worked and whe I rebooted its now back to normal thankfuly. Has anybody on here experiened this problem as I dont want this to happen again. Or is this another bug within Windows 7
