[Need Help] Unable to rename/move folders!

I've updated my windows 7 yesterday (April 28, 2010) with the latest Windows 7 updates. I'm not so sure if that updates causes this to happen but yeah...

Whenever I try to rename a folder, it prompts that box. "Could not find this item. This is no longer located in C:\Users\My_User\Desktop. Verify that the item's location and try again."

If i were to rename a file, like a microsoft word/video file/photoshop file, there wouldn't be a problem.!

    I've tried
    1) Using CCleaner to fix the registries
    2) Run a "Check disk" with the windows tool..
    3) Restarted my computer
Yet I can't find any cure!

All current existing folders on the computer will be prompt when it's being rename/move.

Do you have kb980408 installed? Check in Add/ Remove programs ("Show updates" must be checked). That seems to be causing this problem on at least some systems.

If you have system restore turned on, there should be a restore point to revert to the time before installing these updates. Try restoring.

Do these to clear corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files.

Run CMD as admin, then type at the command prompt:

    sfc /scannow

    This is my result

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

    Hmmm. Tough.

    1) Do a malware scan with mbam.

    2) Does this problem occur in safe mode also?

    2) Try creating another user account and logon from that.

This doesnt look good. My guess is that one or more of the updates messed up quite a few registry settings and the problem was not rectified by uninstalling the update. Also since 7 is a new OS, there doesnt appear to be a reg fix posted out there yet, like some for vista. The only thing possible now is to live with the problem till it is corrected by MS in say sp1 or do a repair install.

    Repair Install

Backup any data files on C: drive before doing that and keep your driver/ app cds handy just in case.
