What is the diference between disk image and copying?

Thanks for your help in advance. I know I requested a lot of help today so this will by my last post for a while :D


I am creating a disk image of my C drive what I don't really understand what it is I am doing.

I already have my photos,music and documents saved on my external drive and now I am saving a large disk image to that same drive. Am I just doing the same thing twice?

A disk image creates a literal copy of the disk, allowing you to not just restore your data, but your exact install from before.

disk image is storage image, such as other setting device included for backup or recovery purposes to prevent losing your data after fatal failure.
