Windows 7: command prompt dosn't work

command prompt dosn't work

My command prompt somehow dosn't seem to work like i want it to. E.g. I want to enable the administrator account. So i type: net user administrator /active:yes
Or i type ipconfig /all or getmac to get the mac address.

No matter what command i type i get the message: 'something' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

I tried to run command prompt both admin and as common user.

Have anyone any suggestion for what i can do?

You get this error only when you don't type it correctly. Try typing simple commands like diskpart or ipconfig and check what comes up.

I'd suggest a sfc /scannow, but I don't think that will work in this case.

You may need to do a repair install. You should also check for malware using Malwarebytes.

I now did the quickscan with malwarebytes. It didn't find anything.
Why should my OS all of a sudden be corrupted?

Windows XP - Now Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).

As a test could you: create a new account (with full admin privileges) and see if that makes any difference.

Click on Start button and type "sysdm.cpl" without quotes in the Run or search box. Alternatively, click on "System" icon in control panel.

In the window that opens up, Select the "Advanced" tab and then click "Environment Variables".
In the system variables panel at the bottom, choose "Path", then click the "Edit" button.

Edit the variable value. It is a long string separated by semicolons. Make sure the executable file’s location is one of the entries on this string. For commands like ipconfig, getmac etc., it is the system32 folder. If it is not there, just add the path entry of C:/windows/system32.

Also make sure that the relevant exe file like ipconfig.exe or getmac.exe are actually present in the system32 folder.

Some OEM PC maker's are putting a password on the administrator account.

You may be able to override with Dinesh tutorial.
