Windows 7: Windows won't sleep properly

Windows won't sleep properly

A few weeks ago, my computer started acting up. Whenever it goes to sleep, it shuts off completely for about a second, then goes into a sort of 'zombie' mode in which only the fans and lights are on. The computer won't wake up if you use the mouse or keyboard. The only way to wake it up is to hit the "restart" button, upon which it will show a standard booting screen (Asus, then windows). Upon logging in, everything is there, as if it simply went into hibernate.
The same thing happens if I sleep manually, and even when I go into hibernate.
I've tried toggling the power settings and scanning for viruses. I was even going to do a system restore, but it hadn't logged any days.

Stats:
Running Windows 7 Home Premium
2.66GHz Intel Core i7
120MM liquid cooler
6GB of DDR3 memory
two crossfire-enabled ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB video cards
1TB WD 'Green' 7200RPM hard drive
ASUS P6T SE motherboard
1000W power supply

Thanks for the help!

Same problem I have.
Windows Does Not Start After Sleep

Try turning off Hybrid Sleep, or stop using sleep.

I tried turning off hybrid sleep. Same deal, except it won't save my session information.
I have since stopped using sleep, but it's annoying. If I have to leave the computer for more than an hour, I have to turn it off, to save power.
Thanks for your comment, anyways.

Sleep isn't something that you should really be using. I know, I know it's there and so convienient but it was never perfected on DOS based machines. Sleep has always caused problems whether it be with internet connectivity, program response or a million other things. If you want a faster startup and/or to save energy explore the other power saving options that you can use. I recommend turning off your monitor/hard disks when not in use and to use hibernate. Hibernate is basically shutting down your computer except it stores your recent memory on your hard disk so that you can start up quicker than you normally would. Sleep mode works perfectly on Unix machines, but it's just not something people should be using on DOS machines, just search the forums for sleep issues and you'll find out how flawed the process really is.

I use it all the time. Back in XP days and before it was totally bogus for me but since Vista rc1, it started working pretty well. Win7 sleep is nice! Zzzzzzzzzzzz

It may work for you, but as I said, search the forums and you'll see how flawed it is.

Some drivers can hinder sleep, some applications (real time monitoring apps, sound card dashboard app, and many others) can hinder sleep, some can even make your computer BSOD. I have a Terratec DMX 6 Fire 24/96 card, it got the most basic and useful sound card "dashboard" application ever, but IF I enter SLEEP with that app OPEN, my computer will crash. I finally know that that app is monitoring my sound card by it's custom means, and it's not sleep friendly technique... IF I exit that app then I enter sleep, everything will be OK. See if you find anything similar...

Changed the BIOS power setting from "Auto" to "S3". Still no luck. Thanks anyways, KrisM.
zzz2493: I turned off all my background applications. Same thing happened, except I was able to bring up the screen by moving my mouse in "zombie mode". I thought it was perhaps the power settings, so I tweaked everything to make sure nothing could wake it up.
Still no luck. Thanks anyways, guys. I may just have to reinstall my OS sometime.

I am aware that the software for the CyberPower UPS kills Win7 Wake by USB mouse, though that's not the situation here....
