Help needed on systray problem

Hey Guys.

Can anyone tell me why my icons in systray,specifically Eset Nod32 and Deamon tools icons disappear whenever my computer is switched off at the wall socket?

I switch off all my pc/peripherals at night at the wall socket to save energi, and only 1 pc has this annoying problem. I thought it would be solved with new hardware,as i just upgraded from a core 2 duo 6750/asus mb (which also had the problem) to my current core I5 750/gigabit mb.

The programs themselves seem to load fine even though the systray icons are not there. And if i do a few reboots, everything goes back to normal.

Hardware these days of energy saving shouldn´t have to rely on a constant standby current,isn´t that what the internal battery is for?

This doesn't specifically answer your questions but I had a problem with Mailwasher Pro of the program icon (blinks when new messages arrive) would not stay shown in the "notification" area (formerly called the Systray). I could go into customize and select the "show icons and notification" and sometimes when the program was started it would do it and other times it would not. I finally "fixed" the problem by starting Mailwasher Pro in a Vista compatibility mode. Since then it always defaults to the show icons and notification.

I had to think about this for a while but it seems to me if windows isn't in hibernate or standby and is completely shut down it shouldn't matter if your PC is plugged in or not as far as those icons are concerned. All the battery does on a desktop PC is maintain your BIOS settings and the date and time. If your PC is in standby and you unplug it you could loose the data stored in memory (RAM), the CMOS battery won't back that up. Are you shutting down windows or putting it into standby?
Also since you have switched hardware and it only does it on this one PC I kind of think its a software problem not a hardware problem. I've seen this type of glitch on my XP machine if I had it set to auto log me on. The program would be running but the icon would be MIA. Usually a reboot would bring them back or switching back to logging on manually. If that didn't work I would re-install the program and it would be OK again.

I always shut down pc properly before switching off wallsocket, problem persists. Programs are running, systray icons are simply not "loading" or something, it is kinda annoying.

And yes, a reboot will usually restore icons,as long as power from wallsocket is switched on.

That said, my 2 pc´s do not have identical hardware, one i use strictly for internet,and 1 stricktly for gaming, and 1 has the problem,the ohter doesn´t,and EVERY piece of hardware in this room is connected to the same wall socket

Hmm, but then why doesn´t the same programs behave same on my other pc?

You could try this if you like, it will remove all but the default windows 7 icons from the tray. I've done it to get ride of left over icons for programs I have un-installed. Any programs that are currently installed will just put a new icon back in the tray when you run them.
In regedit, delete these values in right frame:IconStreams and PastIconsStream
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify\
Open Task manager & kill explorer.exe (desktop will disappear).
Then do File > new task & type explorer.exe.

OK, i tried what you suggested,and it worked,somewhat.. It worked the first couple of daily startups, then it went right back to not loading the usual icons..Then today all icons loaded on startup. I have a sneaking suspicion it might be my Eset blocking the icons. If the programs of the missing icons load before Eset and wants to go online,it will be blocked from doing so i suspect,and thus might not load the icon. Then when Eset has loaded fully,it will let the programs work properly,but not load the icons as it is too "late". Does this make any sense?

As a test you could run msconfig and disable the entry for Eset. Then wait a little while after you get to your desktop to see if the icons load and launch Eset manually from the program icon. There are programs that will change the order that your apps load on boot up and even delay their launch. I've never used one but I'm sure Google can find one if you use the correct search term. Another option would be to switch from Eset to Microsoft Security Essentials as a test. If you go that route un-install Eset first as two ant-virus programs can make for a mess even if you think one is disabled. These are programs that really like to get their hooks into windows.

Hehe,seems too much a hassle for a few icons .. Thanks anyways,but i won´t fiddle with this anymore.
