What procedure do you use for vista that you keep referring to? all the commands i use for replacing the hives from the backup via the command prompt for windows 7 still work the same.
    YupYup,
I've done this several times to repair XP using a 98 boot disk and more recently using a miniXP boot disk. Are you saying that it is the same process for Vista and "7"?

I've tried booting to MiniXP but found the "7" drive inaccessible. Is there something else I should be using?

    Regards,

    Hey Xpansive & all ,

Just wondering did you fix this problem you were having as I'm having pretty much the same thing only its the black screen of death with the cursor and I'm having all the same results for system restore, system repair etc. The registry rebuild is what im thinking next.....any luck?
