Have you tried my suggestion to plug the LAN cable that is in your PC into the laptop to see if the hang still occurs. Also can you not check whether the laptop OS is 32 or 64 bit? And again where did your copy of Win 7 come from?

well the laptop is not mine. its my uncle's laptop and i have browsed the net by connecting my LAN cable with the laptop. it worked fine. i dont know whether the laptop is 32 or 64 bit. this problem existed when i connected my friend's laptop which is 32 bit with my system too. and regarding the windows 7 OS i got it from my friend.

Is it a legitimate copy or is he running that same copy also?

    Hi Carl
If he "got it from a friend" that suggests to me that whilst his friend may have it legitimately, it is surely a breach of the conditions to "give it to a friend".
