Will my old computer run 7

Hey guys.. I knoew this isn't the easiest question to answer. Nor is it really a yes or a no. But I have a old computer that is running a PII I think from socket 423. It is old. Have a 128mb. Video card some no namer, and a 80gb hard drive. I am not fully sure of the ram. But the pc runs windows XP fairly well. It is a little slow at times but for the most part it runs pretty well.. it has a virus that I can't figure out. I was thinking i'd load windows 7 to it and just format the drive.. I just worry about finding the drivers for the motherboard and the graphics card..

Basically I am asking if it can run windows 7 ok if it runs XP pretty well??

    Thanks!

Pentium II? Hell. Windows 7 sure needs less than Vista but NOT THAT OLD. lol You need AT LEAST 800MHz CPU and I don't think a PII has that much MHz.

I think that the minimum is a Pentium III 800MHz. :\ The rest looks okay though. By the way, that graphic card needs to be Direct X 9c compatible. Otherwise, it will not be able to run Win7 even if you try.

    EDIT

    The strict minimum

    CPU : 32-bits 800MHz
    RAM : 512MB
    Graphic card : Direct X 9c
    Hard drive : 15GB

You never know till you try. Sounds like you are about to reformat xp anyway? Someone showed installing with only 512 memory. Good luck with it. I'm running 7100 on an older box without aero and it just purrs along, no problems. Go for it!

Ya well I would be ok with running basic.. but I would still not get the true feeling, touch and look of windows 7.. I don't have xp. This computer I am talking about is a pc a girl gave me when I built her a new system.. it is full of viruses. That is why I wanna wipe it out. I only have vista x64 and windows 7 that's all. Lol.

I will try it tonight when I get home lol I don't remember how much ram it has.

7's minimum RAM is 512, so check that again on your machine. That may be the only thing holding you back.

Cool, thanks for the info and the specs.. I am on my G1 at work posting this..

Ya I am waiting for my new speedy wd black 640GB 32mb drive for my actual beastly sig rig. And 7 is going on that drive. But I want a test run for fun on this old junker before I throw it on my real machine..

I've read good things on the drive I just bought so I think 7 will run good on it
