If this works, it sounds like you will need to split up the folder into subfolders to speed load time.

If it's not this it could corrupt thumbnail.

I don't think so, if it had been a corrupt thumbnail it should have worked in other folder. Is this your system Sony VAIO VGC-RA830G Desktop Computer Review - PCWorld

Control panel// Color Mangement

In ICC Profiles it should show what one its using.
In ALL Profiles tab is where you want to delete the Windows calibrated one.

Advanced Tab to choose Change Default profile.
sRGB IEC61966 is Win7s default.

But if you have never ran this before, then it may not be the cause.[/QUOTE]

I checked the control panel and apparently it's using sRGB IEC61966..
I can't view any pictures in the pictures folder due it locking up. I tried switching the view to list instead of thumbnail so it doesn't load all of them but that didn't make any difference.

The calibrated color profile shouldnt be interfering then.
I only suggested this because some systems, including my own, will do nearly the same thing after that tool runs.
Sorry this didnt help.

Just out of curiousity .. Have you defragmented the HD?

I would think that some stutter would be normal at first if many pictures. But if you open the folder and allow the Thumb data base to built, future visits would then be quicker.

There could be a corrupt file that causing it as well. Even just 1 might possibly cause a lock up when opening the folder.

As previously suggested, have you tried organizing the pictures with different folders etc?

One other thought:
These pictures I assume are in your "My Pictures" folder?
If so, what happens if you try and view them through WMP.

The defrag of the HD didn't work. Still locked up. This time, she plugged her camera in (Sony DSLR A-330) and opened the file on it to view the picutes on the camera, and while loading them, it locked up. We have changed the view of the pictures from thumbnail to other views, and it still locks up. There only about 30 or so when it was locking up. Could it be a compatibility issue with Win7 and my system?

Have you run W.E.I.?
Loads of stuff won't work properly till you do!
Needs to be run each time you upgrade graphics / certain system files!

Can you tell us if you have any yellow warning triangles in "Device Manager" plse

Are any of your pics corrupted coz that poss. would stop them downloading.

After I ran the W.E.I., the pictures loaded much faster and it didn't do the typical lock up whilst loading the thumbnails. It did, however, lock up when we tried to transfer the pics from the camera to her picture folder in the C: drive(?????). Going to try picasa and see if this changes.

So Picasa worked fine, all the pictures seemed to load great with no problem. Whenever She tried to import new pictures from her camera, the computer locked up.. It seems that whenever she tries to move pictures from the camera to the computer in any way, it locks up.
