USB trasnfer rate to WD MyBook Extremely slow

I'm currently in the process of backing up the active user to a western digital mybook except the transfer rate is like 3 mps a second. I checked to make sure the drivers are updated. The laptop is brand spanking new maybe a month or so old.

I don't know whether I'm using usb 2.0 but I assume I am since the laptop is new.
I'm using the basic cable that came with the mybook.
Laptop hard drive only has about 20 gigs of space left.
External HDD only has 160 gigs outta 958 gigs left.
I'm using a third party software called allwaysync. it's the latest version.
Nothing else is running except mcafee antivirus.

I am at a total loss of what it could be. Any suggestions?

Try just dragging and dropping from explorer and see if that makes a difference.

Use Teracopy. Best free file copier software yet. And get rid of the parasite masquerading as an Antivirus. (Mcafee). It monitors and prescans every file you copy making the already slow USB I/O operations even slower.

I have a very simple but annoying issue with teracopy.
The screen size is so small that I can't see the file name which is a problem when it asks me "do you want to replace the file". Other then that I love teracopy.

Maybe you know how to fix it.

No advice really, well it could help, never, ever, under any circumstances, use Mcafee Anti-Virus. Every time you use it, a child dies somewhere! It's teh evilz!!

J/K But it is absolutely awful!

Do you want to pay? This is important. The new norton is actually quite good, I really believe this irregardless of what anyone else says.

Otherwise, AVG Free, can't beat it.

Nope don't want to pay. To broke to pay is more like it.
Why don't people like norton?
AVG is so slow. I tend to gravitate towards avira and bitdefender.
