Vista and 7, or I should say, the Windows 6.x series utilizes, uses more memory if they can for better performance. If you have 2 or more gigs of ram XP will still use approximately the same amount as with 512 MB or less because it was not designed to use the RAM like windows 6.x . I have 2 GB of RAM and XP loads slower a little than Win7, actually it runs like crap compared to Windows 7. BTW if I boot up Windows 7 RC x86, msn is running in background and vmware's services, it uses 22-23 % of 2 GB Ram, with basic windows skin, if I use DWM it uses around 25-26 % so not much. With Vista it would go up to 30-33% in this basically "not touching the computer after boot up" mode .

With Firefox and background AV scan running, my pc is only using about 1.28 gigs of my 6GB RAM, and CPU usage is about 4% :)

The more the ram installed the more better it organizes and utilises it...
I'll post a snapshot where it only uses 450 mb of RAM (AERO ON, Services Default and Norton on).... with few other softwares running like Object DOck, My Folders and some bluetooth servies in the background....

Windows 7 random CPU usage and high physical memory usage!!!
Ok, I am literally KILLING myself over this! I installed Windows 7 64Bit over XP around a month ago and it was so good that I recommended it to my brother who was previously on XP too. We got him a copy of the 32bit version as he has only 2gb of memory, and he installed it on his machine....
