I couldn't stand the crashes and general slowdowns exhibited by 98.
What?! You didn't enjoy playing the "ctrl + Alt + Del" game that ended with crashing the system by stopping the programs? LOL.

XP SP2's stability was great compared to 98's.

Libraries and "Dynamic Folders" such as the Games Explorer/Folder, IE Favourites dropdown etc. desperately need speeding up before RTM, in fact I'd say they are 7's biggest weakness.
Is this everyone's experience - that libraries are slow?

They seem to link to Windows search which historically has had performance problems.

Thanks for the comments - much appreciated.

I was impressed with the easy transfer tool; first time I used it I set up the new machine fired up the application for the five users on my main machine and once it was complete users were able to log on, and carry on as if nothing had happened!

Funny thing for me though, I was backing up my Outlook pst's etc - then after running the easy transfer tool - I was totally unaware that it copied all Outlook data too!

Very good experience with that tool.

In general; the speed of the OS is fantastic. The UI is much nicer on the eye and to use. Libraries and Homegroup are things that I am now getting used to now also.

i find my libraries very quick and snappy, no noticeable delays or the such, although i have a fairly beefy machine

i find 7 to be very quick and reliable

only problems i have run into is, ATI driver problems (went back to windows install ones and seems good now)

and PunkBuster not working with COD4, both problems not really 7's fault

overall i am quite impressed (still being RC), i am one of the lucky few that NEVER had a problem with Vista, and i find 7 to be better again (as little as that may count to most)

In my opinion i find 7 to be everything vista should have been. I rushed out and bought vista ultimate, finding that i never really used most of it. Saying that as 7 is based upon vista i am finding the differences amazing. The taskbar for example. Much more use now to me then before. Quick jump, again fantastic bit of kit, so long as i remember to use it instead of trawling through my computer etc.... Then of cource theres the speed. I use 6 gig of ram, however in my efforts i have never gotten 7 to use more then 4. But then again im not using graphics progs etc...
Cant say why, but it feels more polished then vista. More easy to use and not so gothic looking. Urgh wtf was slate all about.
On the whole i will go out and buy 7 when released.

What Do You Like About Win7..??

Ok I finally installed win7 last night.. so far I like it.

I wanted to make a thread where Anyone can come and post there comments and views on what they like. Basically I want everyone to post what there new favorite feature is, or something new that is cool with Win7 like changing the startup/login screen. Customizing your taskbar. Anything you've done that you couldn't do in vista or xp.

I think it would be cool to see all the things people are doing, and newbie's like me and others that just installed Win7 can see what you all are doing, and changing.

Just an idea. Let's see how it goes.

    Thanks

    Hello,

I just like the way that you can customize almost everything, and the way the start button lights up looks sweet as. :)

Search programs and files in START menu. That thing is so amazing that I completely forget about Launchy and FARR (Find And Run Robot) That I used in XP.

The OS won't slow down a bit with programs installed. In XP my PC would start to slow down afer I install like 20 programs.

everything is good but it still lacks something like caching is very slow, does not use all installed RAM size of 4 GB (in 32 bits)

some svchost.exe files are very slow in loading.

try yourself. boot your system and when all icons fully appeared on the desktop then try to shut down immediately and you will find that some svchost files are in progress and you will be asked for force shut down.

in this manner vista was pretty fast.
