    missing task manager

    Hi,
I haven't made any changes but I just used ctrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager and it didn't come up just :
    lock this computer
    switch user
    log off
    change password

That's all that comes up on the screen
    Using:
    Win7 home edition 64 bit
It worked fine just a few days ago.

    EDIT:
    THANKS ALL.
Got it working again. Had to do a sys restore to a week ago. Also ctrl-shift-esc works again too. A little strange, but the only things that system restore showed being recently installed was a few critical updates. So I guess I'll just have to wait till Tuesday to see if it messes up again......sigh

Try doing a system restore to a point in time before the problem started...

Does it work if you right click on taskbar, start task manager?

Type task manager in search; that will probalby work. It will come up as view running process with task manager.

i had this problem when i ticked 'replace task manager' in process explorer. turns out i had to:

"The net effect was to render Task Manager unavailable through Windows, reporting that the file is not present (which it is.) I initially thought taskmgr.exe had been corrupted but found a thread that led me to the fix listed below.

As usual, do not mess with the registry before making a backup of it and even then do so at your own peril. Edit the registry using regedit in RUN.

Find the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\taskmgr.exe

delete the key labeled Debugger or modify the value data of the key to "c:\xx\xx\procexp.exe" where xx are replaced by the path to the location of the procexp.exe file. Process Explorer will then run from a Ctrl+Alt+Del as ususal or when task manager is invoked via the GUI."
