Question about laptop batteries...

Every once in a while a new technology for laptop battery technology comes out that greatly increases the capacity and lifespan of laptop batteries. My question is this: Is it common for those technologies to be applied to older models of laptop that were designed before the new technology was available? I am at about 81.1% of my original charge and I was hoping that any new technology (things like nanowires) would be applied to my laptop model when I decide to refresh my battery (probably when I reach 50%).

Sometimes you can update your battery pack by opening it and installing newer versions of batteries

Sometimes third party manufactures will make replacement batteries with updated components. Much the same as laptop AC adapters. Whether or not that happens offen seems unlikly unless the laptop is extreamly popular.

how about a dell studio xps 1340? Its a decent laptop. It has been discontinued by dell, however.

No telling. Usually they make new technologies retrofit, however the sensing may not be the same.
