boot manager/dual boot error

hi all,

I'm having a problem every time I power on the system. I'm dual booting vista ultimate with win 7 build 7100; with vista I have no problem, but with 7 every time I start the system the first boot attempt gives me the error 0xc000000e after the boot manager display: "the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible".;after a reset the system boots 7 with no problems. Win 7 is installed in a brand new hd(seagate barracuda 1.5tb) and vista on a second hd. I've search the web for people with a similar problem with no success. I've tryed already many solutions but the problem persists(latest bios for the motherboard, latest intel sata drivers, etc). I'm hoping that this could be a bug in win 7 instead of a hardware failure for the hd. Again, the strange thing is that this only happen after the power on. After that first error, no matter how many reboots, the system always boot without problems.

I would recommend to format that partition completely (I use Acronis) and reinstall fresh, if it happens again try downloading the *.iso from the microsoft site and burning it a little slower, it may have just been corrupt... just trial and error.

Very odd problem - and it doesn't sound to me like it's Win7 related. The new SuperFetch was found to cause this kind of problem early on and it was an indication of a bad boot block on the partition. What I suggest is to boot into Vista (as admin) and run the DiskManagement console and have a look at the faulty disk/parition. You may need to format/partition the drive. If you do go that route, one sure-fire way to correct issues like that is to simply re-size the dubious partion, even just a little. If there's bad blocks on the drive they cannot be in the boot block. Good luck.

Hi; thanks for the replys; I managed to figure out what the problem is. For you guys out there thinking of buying a HD from seagate, think again, at least one from the generation 7200.11. In my case and according to the seagate website, my version of the 1.5tb with the firmware CC1H should be already fixed and free of problems. Well, it seems that's not the case and it seems that there are many people with these having the same problem and having them to RMA(for more info on this just jump into seagate forum).

Vista resides on one drive and Win7 resides on the 2nd drive. When I first loaded Win7, I had no problems booting into Win7. It wasn't until after I had returned from vista that I experienced my first boot selection failure. I had left a thumb drive and a USB external hard drive attached. My first reaction when receiving the error was to detach the USB devices and try again. Lo and behold --- that allowed Win7 to boot????? I lived with that until I finished higher priority tasks. Now I want to resolve the USB issue!!! Any ideas?

I checked my Boot sequence devices in the Bios. CD/DVD are only devices listed. I have never thought about booting from a USB attached device. That might be an interesting experiment with the new 64GB thumb drives. I'll have to look into how you make the system look for a USB attached device when they aren't specifically listed in the Bios list.
