Just this minute I installed the drivers from the MH site. So far so good. This time I skipped the Storage device part (Raid, etc.). That seems to work better. My SSD may not have liked that part. My Device Manager is clean now and the "black phases" seem to have disappeared. Thanks again to everybody for their help.

Good work, all. I think co-processor missing is a prob related to Vista. Vista installer may not be as driver-complete as Win7 for some reason.

SD Card readers are likely to show up missing no matter what OS, usually named anything but what they are. You'll see strange missing Devices disappear from error state just by loading device drivers from the manufacturer's Support Downloads webpage for your model.

Yeah, kind of. The initial problem is solved. But now I have an iffy Sleep mode problem. Have to attack that one another day. For right now, I set the sleep button in the start menu to shut down. Since the system boots from the SSD in about 18 seconds, that is not a big problem.
It is really strange. I never had that many problems in 3 years of Vista usage. Maybe I can convince the wife that she should use windows7.

Most sleep issues are solved by updating the display driver. There should be a newer one than the 2007 listed on HP driver's webpage at NVIDIA or via optional Windows Update.

Thanks Greg, I will check that. The problem only occured since I reinstalled Vista on the SSD - the previous version on the HDD did not have that problem. It is not a big deal because the system now boots so fast - it just bugs me.
What it does is it either says "Welcome" and then noodles the hour glass forever. Or sometimes it brings up the desktop which freezes instantly with the hour glass running. Nothing goes, not even the task manager.
