If your Icons come up black after reboot you can go to personalize and change the 32bit color to 16bit or 16bit to 32 bit and the icons will be back the way they should be, granted this fixes it until another reboot and can be repeated each time.
A pain I know, but it works

hi everyone, im wayne from the uk.
i have been searching this and other forums for hours trying to find the cause/remedy for randomly appearing black boxes instead of desktop icons after boot up.
its 50/50 wether normal icons appear or if black boxes appear.
the icon texts are always present.

every time i boot in safe mode they appear normally.
i use the "small icon" setting, if i change to medium or large icon size i still get the "small icon" sized black box overlayed on the larger icon (half icon half black box).

has anyone come accross this problem or have any advice for me, bearing in mind my computer skills are limited.

    many thanks in advance
    wayne

Hello everybody i am going to tell you how to fix it in just 5 sec. All you have to do is go to this site: "http://www.tune-up.com/" download that great program and install it. Than you can follow if you like to boost your PC to max if you like (optional), but you want to do is go to "fix problems", than press fix common problems. The new window will pop-up and make sure you check "Icons are displayed incorrectly" and "Link arrows are not displayed" than click next and let it finish and press finished and make sure you allow it to log off you in order to take that effect. Enjoy .
